As it was raining cats and dogs after church (and still is, aren't tornado warnings fun?), I piddled in the basement garage.
When I bought my GPW several years ago, it had a set of topbows bolted to it. They had cut the top (flat part) of the tub in one place to fit the bows to the inside, and drilled two holes into the side of the tub to bolt it in place. It clearly wasn't for an MB/GPW, but as many had written not to throw anything away, I didn't. I got to looking at them again this afternoon. Thanks to Wes' pictures on line, I discovered that I have a set of bows for the A1. Now, the PO had drilled a second hole toward the bottom, and had elongated the 'proper hole', I assume for adjusting the angle, but I don't think that will cause much trouble. I believe that I can repair both and after some paint, I should be good to go.
That leads to another question. A few years ago, I bought a pile of assorted parts from a widow. There was everything in that pile from 24V stuff to an MZ generator, PE-95 radiator, etc. Also included was a set of top bows and a complete canvas enclosure, including door frames. (The deal was all or nothing for a small sum, so I bought it all. Now, the top bows and canvas, she said, came off of their M-38. However, these bows don't look like the A-1 bows. The front bar pivots are near the base of the main bow. Also, at the base of the main bows is a flat piece of metal that has pieces on the distal end, that appear to be for mounting the bows. The front bow has two stampings welded on that appear to be for the top rails. What might this thing be for? I do not know how to post photos here, but if anyone is interested, I can take a photo and shoot it to you.
Thanks:
Dave

Wes:
Thanks, I just forwarded you a picture of the the top rod tab location on my bows. They are located on the horizontal, not the sides, as in your drawing.
Thank you Dave, That's what we built the site for! Plenty of info, no hassles and no web bullies. _________________ Wes K
