I would like to know if my 1961A1 engine number MD 63704 is a match with vin number 86606. Since I found the Ft Ord metal plate on the side of the crankcase I am thinking it is a replacement engine but maybe it is the original and rebuilt.

Also, I saw some pictures on the G503 site that shows a 1962restored jeep with nickel plated? bolts. Earlier jeeps I have seen appear to have cad plated or yellow/gold looking bolts. Is there a standard on the plating or were both used?

And the mystery continues.....

That engine serial is way to low for your M38A1.

Yellow cadmium was most common. I would image an occasional zinc set will show up since some of the hardware specs say either or.

Thanks Wes. Would you please give me the approx. year of the engine? I'm thinking it would be good to know re: parts ordering.

Since unlike the WWII jeeps we have no factory documentation to support the delivered serial numbers and a very small data base of existing engines ththe closest (WAG) I could take a wild poke at is a chassis serial about 3000 to 5000 less than the engine serial.
