a friend of mine tends to find interesting m38/m38a1 parts of interest. This post concerns two different styles of axle bumpers, a tall and a short.
The short style is listed in the M38 ord 9 as ord # 7065901 and willys # 802455.
the long style is listed in the m38a1 ord 9 as ord # 8329600 and willys # 805580
whats interesting here is that in the m38a1 ord 9, the long version is listed first and then superseded by the short version.
How long was the long version used and why was it stopped?
does any m38a1 owner have the tall bumper on their jeep?
A popular parts vender lists both styles on its website. i called them to ask about the two styles and was told the tall ones were used on the rear and the short style on the front???
Nice post Gary. That is interesting. It was not uncommon for the Army to lower it's spares count by only using one of two different items for two different vehicles if the one they chose functioned adequately or better on both.
I took the liberty of reducing your illustrations to be within the size constraints of our photo posting policy. All but one of your posted photos was over 1 meg while the ones I reposted for you are all less than 100K. _________________ Wes K

Only when your view is from above the long side of the photo. From head on they are very disappointing. _________________ Wes K
