|
|
I'm pretty sure I need to rebuild my fuel/vac pump. If I let my jeep sit for a few hours the gas drains out of the line from the carburetor to pump. I have to prime the line with a syringe and squirt gas into the carburetor to get it to fire up. Then it runs and idles fine.
My question is is there a way to tell what fuel pump kit I need without removing the pump? I will rebuild the carb too. DeBella has a pump rebuild kit but it says it's only for square hole plungers.

You have to pull the pump to determine which type you have.

THANKS RICK!!!
Would you recommend a DIY rebuild or sending the old one in and getting a shiny rebuilt one back?

Test your pump first with a vacuum gauge.
$10-15 @ HF.
If your pump pulls a vacuum then the fuel pump needs nothing & you need to check if there is an air leak between the fuel tank & pump [do not forget flex lines!].
If you can't pull a vacuum with the pump & fuel is not appearing in the sump [oil pan] it is possible just the 2 little valves may be dirty, not seating/sealing properly & need servicing.
There may be nothing wrong with the diaphragm, so why get in there?
A $10-15 gauge to pinpoint the problem is a lot less work [read headaches]. It is also a lot less cash than buying unnecessary parts or sending the pump off to someone else, when there is absolutely nothing or little wrong with it.
Your choice. _________________ John GIBBINS

Hooked up the guage like the bible says, nothing. Switched to the other side, nothing. I'm sending it off. Kaiserwillys wants 149.99, MWM wants 170.
Everyone says MWM is awesome, what about Kaiserwillys? |
