Just a quick question on hood letter size for a 51 M38. Are they 2" or 3". I bought the 3 " and think I may have made a mistake.
Thanks in advance.

Just painted mine - read somewhere in a TM that they should be as large as would fit. I had to use 2" to get them to fit in front of the fording block off plate and behind the blackout light. Small photo of my hood at

Sonny and Wes,
Thanks for the information. I guess I jumped too quick on the 3" numbers and will need to order the 2" stencils instead.
Thanks again,

I had a local sign shop make me some out of stick on vinyl tape. Lettering is 2". You just peel the backing off as you place it where you want it and then mask around it so you want get over spray on the OD paint. He told me to use white spray on laquer. Laguer dries pretty fast. And spray a light even coat, let the set for about five minutes and spray another light coat. Repeat the process untill you are satisfied that you have the OD back ground covered good enough. After you finish the last coat, wait about fifteen to twenty minutes and pull the vinyl tape off carefully working it around the lettering. _________________ Tropical Veteran
