Hi guys,
I was out driving my m38 tonight with the family and all of the sudden i heard the gremlin in the bottom lightly tapping with the ol hammer. Still maintaned 60 lb of oil pressure. I immediately brought the jeep home. My uncle who restores old cars and was a willys guy said he thought that it sounded like a rod starting to go due to it's bearing wearing out. Any suggestions on where to go with this as far as cost or suggestions on wich route to take, any advice is grealy appreciated.
I would think them questions would be best asked of your uncle. He is there to hear it and he is a Willys guy.

Thanks DJ, We are going to pull the motor and pan and go from there. I leave for iraq sept the 19th so we are gonna try and get it wrapped up before i leave. It's crazy i just totaly restored her as far a s appearance goes. The only reason i did that was i drove her for a year with zero mechanical issues. It's ok though, you never know how the poor things were treated. Good thing is that it's a simple motor to rebuild. That way now i will know everything on the inside and outside is good!.
A bad rod bearing (loose/worn) should have resulted in a noticeable decrease in oil pressure. 60 Lbs of oil pressure is rarely seen in an engine with a rod knock. Perhaps you may be lucky and only have a lifter issue. _________________ Wes K

Copy Wes,
One thing i did fail to mention that i did do differently is this, I normally mix the lead substitute with the gas, but was caught about 10 miles away from home and ran out of fuel. I had to put about five gallons of straight gas in her and all of these issues started. I got home and mixed the lead substitute with the new gas and the noise began. We thought it was the lifter as well. When the jeep is at idle it purrs with no noise but, when you rev her up a lil and let off the skinny pedal real quick and give her a lil more gas you can hear the knock/spike sound. It also makes this noise under load ie. when taking off in first and you bring the rpm's up to the next shifting point it's quiet until you almost reach the shifting point then you hear the stated noise i mentioned. This is in every gear. Once again thank you everyone!
