Always NEED more tools. And the blue wrench has so many uses.
Yes awesome is the exact term I used. Both sides on the rear had that mod done. Im guessing that at some point the needed to remove the rear springs, broke the head off the shackle and then welded those sweet custom bolts on to keep it together

I used Bretto's idea on the temp sender that broke off. Wrapped a hack saw blade with tape on one end and cut four slots. Hit the quarter pieces with a punch.
Just tore down a '53 frame and all of them came out. One bushing housing beat itself out of the frame and they drove it like that for who knows how many years. I need to weld it back into the frame but it's worth it because it's an unmolested early A1 frame. _________________ '53 M38A1 X2

If you have no nut to turn then an impact wrench will not help. Also some of the shackle nuts are righty loosey!
If you have no nut to turn them back to acetylene torch heat and then use the air hammer, preferably a long stroke. Machining a piece of round steel stock to fit the inside of the shackle bushing with a step just larger enough to catch the edge of the bushing without catching the edge of the tube that is welded into the bracket and use the air hammer to drive it.
The above link made my day! I'm working on my springs where I have a broken leaf, the one that holds the shackle, and I might just have to do just that!!!!
Thanks Wes !
