I had a winch frame fabricated to match the military one, but bolt up to my Ramsey 200L PTO winch. The only problem now, Is I need to pull the clutch brake lever off the shaft and reverse it so it fits in the winch. It's stepped outward, and I need to flip it so it is stepped inward. The lever slides on a metal shaft, and is secured with a screw. The screw had long since fallen out, yet the lever is still stuck on the shaft. I have used Kano oil, but to no avail. It looks like this

Where is the set screw in those photos? I see none nor do I see any hole in the handle for a set screw. I do see what may look like a roll pin that is inserted near one edge. _________________ Wes K

Not uncommon for them to be welded to the shaft by age and rust. Looks like you will have to lift the winch out of the angle steel frame so you can get a puller on the handle. _________________ Wes K

Page 19 shows that it is indeed a setscrew coupled with a conventional key.

I see it and I already downloaded it, thanks. I didn't think the forum would have something about civilian PTOs! Once I have managed to flip the clutch lever on the shaft, I can see that the shaft is still too long. Can I simply cut the shaft? _________________ 1952 M38A1

To a certain limit I suppose you can trim the shaft. Why not correct the error in your mounting frame instead of buggering up the winch? _________________ Wes K

I can, and I am sure that the new frame will mount the winch a little better, but the shaft is still longer than the others I have seen. It sticks out a couple of inches on the other side from the lever. _________________ 1952 M38A1
