Who makes the best rebuild kit? Although the transmission worked fine 39 years ago before I put the vehicle in storage, I feel compelled to replace all bearings and synchronizers. Do you agree? Thanks |

A good thorough inspection would be in order. Chances are probably yes on some of the parts, especially if there's any water in the box. It's gets old having to pull the tranny to chase troubles.
As for a kit, i don't know but I would shy away from overseas parts and try to find NOS. I bought one of those Crown kits and half of the parts in it were garbage. Ended up getting NOS parts off ebay. Takes some searching and time but they are out there still. _________________ Brett

I agree. I rebuilt my T90 few years ago with parts from Novak and it works perfectly. _________________ Guy aka M38CDNBill

Anyone have positive or negative experience using Transparts Warehouse BK119WS rebuild kit? Or how about Kaiser Jeep? |

I just rebuilt mine using Transpart. Parts looked decent. Bearings were same ones Novak kit has so Iwonder if iit's the same kit, just cheaper. _________________ 1952 M38 project

My gears are in good shape. Replacement of gaskets, bearings, and syncs are my primary objective. I disassembled the tranny because it had been sitting for nearly 40 years. I've stripped and painted the casing and ready to reassemble once I buy the overhaul kit. |

In reference to the original question, when I worked as a driveline mechanic, replacing bearings and synchronizers was pretty much standard on a rebuild. The brass syncros could have damaged teeth, but also pay attention to the cone faces for wear. That is why they it was better to just change out.
There is a You Tube video from a guy under shnitzlhaus that has a great video outlining the process. Worth a look, even at almost 40 min long.
I 2nd the notion that parts from Novak are top notch. _________________ Roger R
