I've looked in my manual and have taken my manual to the local Les Schwab Tire chain, and we still can't find information that they can use to align my M38. Their books only go back to 56, and it's for CJ5 specs only. Any thoughts or places I could look?
Thanks. _________________ Rusty, 1952 M38, Koenig hard top.
The alignment specs are listed on page 156 of TM 9-1804B and 268 of TM 9-8012.
The toe & caster (Steering king pin inclination) can be adjusted. The manuals do not say they can't. They say all adjustments other than toe must be made at a higher echelon of maintenance.
Caster can be corrected using tapered shims between the axle housing and the spring.
Expanded procedures can be found in the civilian manual SM 1003 page 235. The higher headquarters motor pool would have had a copy of this civilian manual.
Your front end guy can easily take care of your jeep by referencing the page I posted here with the specs and using the civvy manual for the actual adjustment procedures. If he doesn't have a 1965 copy of SM1003 then he can use a 1971 copy of the CJ5 civvu manual SM1046
A word of caution on the adjustment of the steering stops on the front axle. They vary in how many degrees depending on which knuckle joints you have (spicer vs rzeppa vs bendix). _________________ Wes K

Put this on the wrong thread.
Too much work, not enough sleep!
Sorry about that Wes.
I pulled that caster and camber info from the previously referenced thread.
"Caster and camber are non-adjustable meaning their dimensions are set permanently at the factory. "
