I am overhauling my L134. In the manual it shows a spacer that goes between the thrust plate and the timing gear. I don't think I had one on the cam when I took it apart. I looks to me like the cam just rubs up against the thrust plate on one side, and the timing gear on the other. Am I missing something or is the book wrong?
the spacer 7 (sometimes referred to incorrectly as a washer) should be 0.006" thicker than the plate 6.
This is covered in great detail on page 72 of TM 9-1804A. There is a caution there that the beveled edge of the spacer 7 goes aft towards the cylinder block.
If you look carefully at the thrust plate when the cam & plate are installed you'll see there is a gap between the inside edge of the thrust plate and the cam. The spacer fills that gap _________________ Wes K

Thanks so much Wes! I called Midwest Military and they have one. I noticed in my ORD 9 SNL G-740 manual they show a different part number on the graphic, versus the numbers page.
Looks like it should be about .180 X 1.65 X 1.25
I don't remember it being on the cam. Since the piston skirts were knurled and there were some newer parts on the engine, I wonder if it ran without the spacer or I just lost it.
usually it is dropped in the cleaning bucket and overlooked. It is really needed there. Note that the manual suggests if you are outside the 0.006 end play limit you may either have to shim that spacer or grind some meat of the spacer. Be careful to keep the camfer end unharmed by any grinding you do. _________________ Wes K

thanks, I'll check it out. Looks like I have to put the gear on to actually check the end play, so I'm glad I made the gear removal tool out of crow's feet in case I need to get it off to shim it.
