|
|
My 52 M38 front and rear drive shafts have different type slip joints and different spline counts. Rear is 16 spline with a thread on cap. Front is 10 spline with a crimp style cap. I would like to identify what the front shaft came on and get a new cap and felt, and be sure it will work correctly. Any help is appreciated.
|

Both front and rear on both the M38 and the M38A1 are 15 spline + keyway on the factory blueprints for original shafts. You'll need to offer photos of your front shaft and offer up any numbers found on the shaft before any of us can be expected to help you ID your odd front shaft.
I am moving your post from our long term project following "Projects Forum" to the more appropriate "Technical Knowledge Base Forum". _________________ Wes K

I already copied your numbers from your last post. The reason I asked for a photo of the numbers is because how and where they are presented helps provide clue's to the parts identity. So if you cannot take a photo detailed enough and put it in your album then at least provide us with a precise description of the appearance and location of the numbers. For example you can draw a crayon circle around them then take a closeup photo. _________________ Wes K

See if you can find a driveshaft shop near you. Or else post the spline diameter on here. Driveshaft parts in the aftermarket are rarely listed by make model year. Only by size. If I have the diameter I can probably get you a part number.

I brought the shaft inside and with a better camera I was able to get pictures of the numbers location on the shaft. Hope it helps. The photo is in my gallery “Richlep2” Still not sure how to attach photos to the post
The URL for your photo is placed between these: [img]Your 1st click on the Img above yields this 1st bracketed [/img]
You then copy your photo's url and paste it between these
There is still only one photo in your album. The original you posted above.

Posting photos from your album:
1. right click on the photo in your album and select "copy the image link" (of the photo) that you want to post.
2. Put (paste) it in between these: . You can use the button tag and "close tags" or you can type them manually.
The [img] without the front slash has to be first and the one with the front slash has to be last.
3. Done! _________________ Ron D.
