Thanks to Sam and Peter. I have been on you web site, Peter and will be contacting you in a couple of days. Sam, I don't understand the "motor pool M38" designaiton. Also, I don't understand the engine designation, "CJV36", that you mentioned. I tried to contact Ventage Wiring of Maine last Friday, but evidently they were closed for the holiday. I will also contact them within the next few days.

Thanks to all for your help and information.

The CJV35/U is a special order Navy/USMC version of the CJ3A contracted in 1949 with deliveries to the USMC ending in Jun 1950. It was a waterproof ignition jeep with a 6 volt chassis electrical system and a pto driven 12 volt radio electrical system. Only 1000 were built.

The M38 contract negotiations started around the same time in 1949 as the Navy's CJV35/U project but the Navy was in a big hurry and didn't want to wait on the first US Army Ordinance negotiated standard military quarter ton jeep. The M38 which is also based on the CJ3A started production in Sep 1950 and ended production in Jul 1952.

In this photo of the CJV35/U you'll notice the grill is stock CJ3A with the odd extended headlight doors. The hood has the raised "WILLYS" which the M38 does not. The bottom windshield vent is functional on the CJV but the M38 is bolted shut. The front frame rails are not boxed in like the M38 and

Motor pool restoration :
is a vehicle that is resotred with replacement parts that would have been available within the military maintinance depot at the time the vehicle is meant to represent.

The CJV-35/U is a Marine Corps order vehicle from Willys Overland in early 1950 that was 6 volt with a separate 12 volt PTO driven generator and 12 volt operated radio. It was a "precursor" to the M38 with limited water resistant fording capabilities.

As you can see in Wes's posting above.

Here is a photo of a test.
