This is is going to sound STUPID...but I've never seen the part E inner cap before. Ive had my distributor top with threaded towers off several times over the years & never sighted the inner cap before!!
I will pull it off now and have a look for it.
In mean time-do you recommend replacing both distributor Part C & Part E when replacing for new? _________________ Regards,
No, Failure of the Item C cover is extremely rare. As for item E the cap generally failure is related to cracks, excessive carbon tracking burns and worn rotor contact.
You have probably not noticed in the past that the item E cap is retained inside the Item C cover by the three screws Item AG. _________________ Wes K

As a side note; on the blow up of innercap (E) on the end of the arm is shown a brass stud... this has a spring slipped on it (T, not shown in picture). don't loose it until you have another replacement cap, they come with it. _________________ '51 M38 #22936,
