These old engines were designed to function on 65 octane elephant urine.
Unless a guy tricks out his engine to turn 5000 + RPM and jacks the compression way up there's no real problem with the lack of lead in todays 80/87 octane mogas.
The real problem with todays fuels is their additive's effects on the NOS old style rubber components floating around. _________________ Wes K

lead substitute is cheap and comes in a plastic container like stabil with the measuring cup molded in, wheather or not you truly need it depends on who you talk to but it is so cheap it is not worth it not to use it, imho
Lead substitues are like Marvel Mystery Oil, everyone swears by it but no one offers any factual support for it.
We're talking 4 cylinders, 6.5 compression ratios, 2500 RPM and 45 to 50 mile an hour here! Not 10 to 1 compression , 7,000 RPm , 160 MPH V8's.
I'm getting 100,000 miles out of an F134 with unleaded gas and 10W30 oil for the last 15 years and if it doesn't come out of the pump hose I don't waste time trying to squeeze it out of a bottle. _________________ Wes K

So you use 10W30 in your engines? I replaced the 10W30 oil in mine for SAE30. Is the 10W a better choice?
It is up here in Wisconsin with the fluctuations in temps from "0" to 60 over the last two months. 30 is used in the summer. _________________ Wes K
