Thanks for all your info on my last post. The Jeep finally arrived last night and went about gathering pictures and numbers.

Photos are up at http://s249.photobucket.com/albums/gg232/cju777/M38A1/

The floor plate over the transmission is still on the way.

Here's what I have so far - a thunderstorm cut my work short...

It has an orange coat of paint over the orignal OD, most of the parts look orignal and has the 24 volt setup still.
There is a plaque mounted below the winshield stating its "Federal Use Only" as a Forest Service fire vehcile... hence the orange I suppose.

Serial # off the data plate and Patent Plate -
MD 82542
DOD - 3/55

On the hood the old stencils can still be made out.
US ARMY
2A4765

There are numbers painted over on the front bumper, need some time to make them out fully.

The engine has a '66 rebuild tag on it, need to go back to copy all the numbers.

Currently trying to clean the layers of paint off the patent plate, is nail polish remover ok for the metal?

Let me know what you think,
Thanks everyone!

I took my patent plate off and soaked it in Laquer thinner over night and wiped it clean.

Thanks for you input, patent plate looks nice and clean, now on to the dash data plates.

Update on some numbers I found around the Jeep,

The dash data and patent plate both read,
MD 82542, DOD 3/55, EPM stamped with crossed cannons

Engine Serial differs, it's hard to make out until I clean it off a bit but,
MD 21469 -- sound right?
On the left side it has a 1966 rebuild tag with matching serial number.

On the front bumper I found the old left side unit marking painted on,
135GP-F
Which to my understanding is the 135th Field Artillery Group, which around 1978 they became Brigades instead of groups and it falls under the Missouri ARNG.

BTW, the jeep came with a carb and blackout light in the glove box, just no pictures of them yet.

One more question,
The backing plate for the dash data plates was riveted on, is that correct or is it supposed to be screws, In the parts manual it mentions bith rivets and screws.

Thanks everyone!

Screwed on. The plates and their part numbers along with hardware descriptions are in the last chapter of the ORD 9 SNL G-758 IPL.
