All you engine experts---look at this listing---appears to be soaked in cosmoline!! Looks like it has head bolts-not studs. Could this be a GPW ?

Looks at all the questions about that pile of grease. Some guy in Europe is probably going to pay 10 times what it's worth. That's why I stick with the A1's.

That engine went for $3,000. Shocked

I hope they really like it. To rare for me.

I don't know much about the MBs. What was unique about that engine? It looked half assed to me with those wood pieces covering the openings. If they intend on using it, it will probably need to be torn down anyway. And who is to say some guy didn't just spray cosmoline on it and call it a crate engine?

I won this engine; I'll tell you more when the engine is in Germany.
Regards
Uwe

Uwe,
Congratulations on your win.

53A1,
That is probably an Army depot overhaul but more importantly it is a early 1942 MB engine. For a person with a Jan to Mar 1942 MB it would be very valuable.

Someone commented to me that they thought it was an early MB engine for a slat grill.

So it is kinda rare.

Not really, it is worth about $2,000 here. So it obviously did not draw the "10 times" figure you suggested. It was only 8 months ago a NOS in the crate L134 (RMCXXXXXX) went for significantly more right here in the US of A.
