I'd have to see them but remember the Auto-Lite factory supplied 3 different distributors that will all fit the M38 and A1. AMC was a later supplier as well and I am sure several other companies were contracted by the Army through the 80's.

My RMC engine was part of a PE95 generator set. The waterproof distributor installed on this engine was a 6 volt distributor that looks identical to the 24 volt version. What's the deal with the 6 volt distributor. Were these things specific to the genset? I have since replaced it with another very nice 24 volt distributor.

The 6 volt distributor is usually a Bendix/Scintilla brand and was used late in WWII on the radio jeeps and the gen sets and in 1950 on the CJV35. 24V Auto-Lite unit was introduced on the M38 in 1950 and went through three main changes. Early IAU-4004-UT did not have the radio noise capacitor installed (it was remotely mounted on the firewall), later the M38 went to IAU-4006-UT which had the capacitor in the electrical plug housing and then with the M38A1 the distributor recieved a better water proofing and was IAU-4006-AUT which all the earlier ones supercede to. There were more vendors in the 60's and 70's and you will see more different vendor part numbers but you just need to match the ORD# to your ord 9 irregardless of the new manufacturer's numbers.

Thanks Wes. Did you get my email with the pictures of the A1 data plates? Those plates are on Ebay right now so let me know if those pictures are ok.
