I looked through all the posts I could find and couldn't find an exact answer to this question. When a Jeep was repainted by a specific service branch in something other than OD, did they repaint the engine bay, engine, trans and frame or leave it OD. I've looked through a few of the pics on the site and can see some OD engine compartments on Strata blue Jeeps. I'd like to repaint my M38 in Navy gray.

The OD usually was left in tact if it did not normally show. I was in the USAF for 22 years and we didn't bother with the frame and underhood areas. I do not recall seeing an original Navy M38 or M38A1 that was not gray under the hood.
