I tried searching the data base for this answer but cannot find anything. I have a 1961 M38A1. The oil filter cartridge is different from the civilian jeeps and my local Napa dealer cannot seem to find what I need. I asked him to cross reference the Fram number given on this site and he came up with Napa 1100. The filter is snug going on the center shaft but fits and the seal is a perfect match. Does anyone know if this filter has any down side?
It's about 12 bucks and I would not have to pay postage to get one thru a military dealer.
During the resto it is also convenient to add a drain valve to the bottom of the housing so you can drain the trapped oil quickly and easily without any mess or dripping while the oil is still hot. _________________ Wes K

Thanks to all who responded. I feel much better about using this filter now and maybe this will help others with the junior filter. I recall working on cars with this type filter many moons ago and really liked seeing one equipped with a drain. Good suggestion Wes.
