Has anyone had any success in taking the "sealed" horn switch apart (the one that screws onto the bottom of the steering box) and repairing it??

Mine was working intermittently, and then gave up entirely. I am not overly concerned about maintaining full waterproof function, just would like make and break electrical switch function.

I understand there is a repop out there for around $45 bucks, which uses a round ball bearing surface for the rod to push on.. . The flat contact surface of the original is suppose to work better... any advice on the "new" version is appreciated. Can't seem to find an NOS switch around for a reasonable price.

Thanks and regards, Jeff

Hi Jeff,
I had to install a new one (from MWM) as mine was missing and NOS rarer than hens teeth. It's been a quality product so far and the $45 price seems to be the going rate (not much choice). Naturally I tested it electrically before installing, and it went in easily. Adjusting its seating depth and the rod length for the top button was a little tricky, but with patience it works like a champ.

The MWM switch looks to me like it could be easily destroyed in any repair attempt, even if repair parts for it were available. I suspect the original military switch was intentionally a throw-away....back in 1950 it only cost $2 in real money anyway. Very Happy

Good luck !

You can get one apart.

Good luck getting it back together.
