If anyone is in need of a starter and has the 129 tooth fly wheel the Ultima starter #11624 will work in place of the original starter. The bolt hole are a little small for the 1/2" bolt and there is a little alignment issue with the upper hole. I drilled the holes out with a 17/32" drill bit and turned the shoulder on the upper bolt down to 7/16" just wide enough for the ear of the starter to ride on and used a 7/16" bolt in the bottom hole and the starter went right into place. II also am running mine on 24 volts and it starts just fine. Just wanted to pass along the information. Oh btw I got my starter from autozone for $47.00 and some change. _________________ Jeff Loosier

Anyone wishing to experiment with this be cautious. Pulling a tranny/transfer to replace a flywheel because you didn't quite get it perfect is not a choice I would make. If the pinion dimensions are off a little or the pinion travel is off a little it will give you an accelerated wear issue on the ring gear that will cost you time and money later.
Also using a 12 volt starter in a 24 volt system will result in very fast turning starter but as time goes by and those occasional hard starts occur where you have to crank her a while you will eventually smoke the 12 volt starter.
I am not guessing here. This is the result of 50 years in maintenance and 30 years on jeeps. I have seen this done often, and for everyone that lasted 5 or 10 years there were at least 3 that lasted less than a year. _________________ Wes K
