Does anybody know of a reasonably good 24 volt winch that could be installed on an M38? I don't want to spend a boatload of $$$ on it but would like to have it there in case I get hung up while enjoying trail rides with the guys in northern Michigan. The Ramsey winches appear to be rare and quite expensive so I am looking for function over originality. Any information would be appreciated.

Try Warn winches. I know you can get both 12 and 24 volt models. I am changing a Model 8000 from 12 to 24 volt. BTW where in northern Michigan do you ride?

I have a cabin near Houghton Lake and there are lots of short trails nearby. There is also a coordinated trail ride at Camp Grayling (Michigan National Guard) in two weeks and I will be there. It's a weekend thing with barbecues, group photos, etc. It is co-sponsored by the Great Lakes MVPA and the Michigan Museum of Military Transport. There are usually about 35-45 vehicles, lots of dueces and M151s. It is mostly postwar stuff. I guess the Michigan guys with WWII iron are not inclined to test them on 2-tracks. Pity.
