I have a nice shape m170, with a rebuilt carb, and we started her up and she sounded great.... drove around the block and it started to miss and still the engine did not knock or sound bad at all.. got her back to the shop and its spitting out some oil and started to smoke pretty bad.. I had a m43 ambulance that did the same thing and replaced the fuel pump and it cured it... any chance its the same thing???? We are going to bypass the fuel pump with a gas can and hook up to the carb and see if thats the problem... figured somebody out there may have a better idea.. thanks..oh yeah, I bought this a while back and just finished the body work and never ran it prior to the cleaning out of the gas tank and rebuilding the carb and installing a starter, so I really have no history on the vehicle as far as the engine running or not since it was purchased...

You had better change the pump, and more importantly, change the oil. You are sure to be registering an over full oil pan that contains gas and oil mix. If you continue to run the engine with this mix, you will ruin the engine and need a major overhaul.
