About what serial # did they start using the bigger starter and added extra bolts to bell housing flange I have an MC 40520 & a MC 53265 jeeps. both engines been changed to civy cj blocks & 12 volt system but I have 24 volt system off of 1953 M38A1 but no bolt holes in blocks and no small starter thats 24 volt
At engine serial MC74419 and body serial MC53262 during February 1952.
As the service life of the M38 got closer to it's end most military supply system parts still available were the later closed nose starter setup with the reinforced rear block and big hole bell housing. Thus many of the earlier M38's got the later setup while still in service. _________________ Wes K
