The m38a-1 I'm working on has one of the fram canister-style oil filter systems on it and I was just wondering......which do most people prefer.....this system or the Cuno system. My reason for asking.....this jeep was converted to 12V (with an alternator) and it would give me a lot more room to fabricate a tensioning bracket back to the engine block if I used the smaller Cuno system. Guess you could say I'm looking for a reason to make things a little more simple.....but not if it means sacrificing the quality of the oil filtration system. So how about some opinions.....thanks.

I'd recommend going with what the military did. They'd
probably have good reasons.

The military did Cuno for the M38 and for M38A1's thru serial MD28132 (Oct 52) then they went to the standard Fram Military Junior.

As you should already be aware either system is only a partial flow system. Both get the job done. The Cuno is not as messy as the Junior. The Cuno requires the operator's attention more often since the "T" handle must be turned once each operating day.

Cuno filters were used since the late 20's on aircraft engines and most military vehicles at one time or another.
