Parts came from a mixure of places. Most end up being Omix-Ada parts but I go for the cheapest price vendor.

Being backwards like that will totally goof up the RH/LH thread functionality unless the shackles were also swapped driver/passenger side. You'll have to figure out how much is backwards before you'll know which way to try turning the parts to loosen them. Look for the notch that indicates a LH thread.
Do you have an impact wrench? That can help a lot. Can definitely be done by one person - nothing even for a helper to do. Check the condition of the seals; they can be purchased separately if the rest of the shackle is in good condition.

THESE THINGS ARE REVERSED FRONT AND REAR..PROBABLY UPSIDE DOWN TOO. I KNOW WHERE THIS JEEP HAS BEEN SINCE 1971, SITTING IN MY BROTHERS BARN IN AZ. THIS HAD TO BE DONE BEFORE '71.
I CANT IMAGINE THE AZ NAT GRD DID IT.. IM STUNNED THAT ONLY
JUST NOW IM NOTICING THIS.. Embarassed I'LL CONSULT THE TM'S 1ST THEN SEE ABOUT DISASSY AND ORDERING PARTS.. THE GOOD NEWS IS THE TUB IS OFF SHOULD MAKE ACCESS EASY, I WOULDNT WANT TO DO THIS WHILE LAYING ON MY BACKSIDE Laughing

The bearings turned out easily with a breaker bar and ratchet.
the grease seals and retainers are shot, 1 shackle is bent and
2 of the bearing grease zirks are missing. I'll get parts ordered
and get it done right.

I might have ignored this "elephant in the room" just because
i didnt want to deal with it, but a good natured "kick in the pants"
from you guys put me in the right frame of mind..thanks guys..

Now this is better..maybe the jeep police will
let me off with a warning..

I know it is what is, but there must be a practical mechanical
reason for the 2 left hand threads on the complete set of shackles..
anybody got an answer??

the LH thread on the driver front and pass rear are so the that when the spring eye rotates from the spring compressing, it 'tightens' the sleeve rather than having a loosing effect.

Same principal as the wheel lug nuts being LH thread on the driver's side.

Next time you are around a M38 or a 55 to 56 CJ5 look at their front springs. The front springs with the front mounted shackles are preferred for off road use.
