Greetings all,

Thanks to Wes for letting me join.

We have just started a jeep project.

We hope we don’t offend any purists with our project! We are building a Willys from scratch. It’s an M38 chassis, and axles (chassis stamped with M).

I have two CJ2A (1948) engines which I am amalgamating to make one good one.

I intended to put a MB tub kit on it later in the year.

I will try and get some photos up soon.

Thanks Gents for the welcome. I am blessed that my wife (being a US veteran), is very supportive of this project of 'ours' (mine).

We only argue about what markings to put on it once its done. Being a British vet I would like British Army markings (I was thinking Desert Rats as my grandfather was in North Africa with the Royal Artillery, and I have a photo of him sitting in a jeep).

Maybe we will do half and half lol.

Are you aware the MB tub will be a difficult fitting to the M38 frame? Body mount plates on the M38 frame will have to be re-positioned especially around the deep well MB fuel tank. The indents in the rear of the box for the rear shock top mounts on the MB also interfere with the M38 frame. You have a now perfect M38 frame and it would be a shame to have to cut it up now to fit the earlier tub.

In the engine compartment your M38 frame mounts the front of the engine with a pair of staggered mount pads since the M38 engine's front plate has it's left ear forward and the right ear aft. The MB and your CJ2A engine front plate has both mount ears facing aft.

And the front bumper is a straight bolt onto the end of the M38 frame where the MB used a set of front bumper gussets and rivets.

Also the MB grill and radiator bolt to the frame differently then the M38.

I’ll dig it out, and add it to the photo album above. My grandmother kept it with her at all times during the war, and told me how she even crunched it up a few times when the blitz got a little too close.
She knew how precious, and fortunate she was to have a photo of her loved one back then.
