A friend bought a jeep frame and installed a body he built. He thinks the frame was from a CJ5. The frame has this piece attached to the front axle passenger side going toward the rear of the frame.

Does anyone know what it is for?

Thanks,
Don

Don,
I have a late CJ5 front axle I bought a while back and put in my 60 CJ5. It had the same arm. I believe it's a anti-spring-wrap-up device. Keeps the spring wrap-up to a minimum under high axle torque loadings.

Thanks for the replies. It turns out it is a travel stop (not proper term) to protect either the oil filter or maybe the oil pan on some vehicles with the V-6 installed.

I even got a couple of pictures from Marty that made it very clear. I posted it in the file with my first two pictures.

Anyway, I have my answer. THANKS ALL !!!!

Don,

It is in fact a torque reaction control device. It limits spring wrapup resulting from hard braking on Jeepsters with the Dauntless V6. I looked it up in the Jeepster service manual. Chapter M.

Thanks for the additional information Wes. I took it to Dave this morning and he is a happy guy and says thanks. He started to cut the bar on the axle off, but now will keep it and import the chassis stop plate from the old frame to the new one.

Thank you for the extra effort and the education.

Perhaps he can get us some detailed close-up photos of the bracket when it's off the old frame with some measurements? I would be interested in adding that bracket to my CJ5 frame.

Wes,

I lost my chance to get pictures and measurements. The frame went to the recycle yard with the bracket attached.

No worries Don. I went out to my storage area and looked closer at my 70 CJ5 V6 chassis and lo and behold there it was.
