from Philadelphia to Wilkes-Barr. I double checked all the oils, gear oil included, and ended up topping off a bit in the transfer case (I had the fill hole open, and the oil level was well bellow the lip). It was driving fine, and I stopped about halfway out for gas. I smelled gear oil, checked underneath, and the overdrive was leaking quite a bit. The overdrive is a new rebuild from Herm, and I haven't had a problem before. I was thinking, maybe my garage floor isn't level, I put in too much gear oil? I cleaned it up, and continued my journey. In Wilkes Barr, it looked like the leak had lessened. I pulled off the fill plug, and now some oil is flowing out. I'm letting it, and I'll seal it up without adding any more oil for the return trip Any suggestions, warnings, or ideas? _________________ 1952 M38A1

so, I made the return trip. after 2 1/2 hours of driving, I pulled into my garage. I checked, and the gear oil leak was minimal. It's always leaked a very small amount, and it was comparable to that. Every older vehicle I've had has leaked a small amount of oil, I don't know if there is a way to completely seal the transfer/transmission, and in this case, overdrive cases, but I'm all ears. _________________ 1952 M38A1

Use my leak guide on your other post. Remember there can often be a bit of fluid transfer between the tranny and the transfer. This will have a negative effect on one fluid level and an overserviced effect on the other. _________________ Wes K
