can the serial number identify a jeep. its titled in iowa as a 42 ford suv scout car, 1ga97493

1ga97493 is not a Willys or Ford jeep serial number. Most likely it was a State DMV assigned number.

Without seeing some photos of the jeep we cannot offer you much help.

I just got pictures, looks like a mb has willys on the rear left lower corner,some one has butchered a ford six in it the dash is not orginal and all the data plates are gone. looks like the one BUBBA started his career on. thanks for the info.. mike

Is the welded serial plate still on the inside of the left front frame rail, a few inches behind the bumper?

Or, possibly a number stamped on the top of the left frame rail near the motor mount bracket, if it is indeed a GPW

If you find a number on top of the left front frame rail you'll have a GPW frame. Wink
