Pete,

Why not just list the letters for the items you already have or the items you need. Makes it a lot simpler for the folks that have parts to offer you?

You must be referring to John at Midwest Military? If you still need parts he doesn't have try Herm the Overdrive Guy and Ron Fitzpatrick Jeep Parts.

Just a heads up Pete, these handbrakes on the M38A1 & M170 are not the same as the old external WWII jeep hand brakes. Also they are notorious for rattling. You must keep the movement holes in parts J, W, G & P and the stud diameter on V as close to new as you can to keep things tight and quiet. Often times you may have to drill a hole oversize and bush it back to standard. A little attention to detail now will save you hours of irritation later.

Wes thanks for the info
Tighter fit the better
I wish there was a reasonable $ choice to a brake on this one as I really need a brake.Too many gates to open and close on ranches and I have to shut down the engine everytime.
Thanks,
pete

You can upgrade the rear brakes to the 10" or 11" which have the standard parking brake system built into the backing plates. Then convert your handle to a cable pull set-up and no one will ever know.

Wes,
Ill give the original brake a try with new parts from Midwestern.
Ive installed them with some modifications of pad thickness and arm grinding and Im impressed with the results as of now.
My concern is are they notorious for locking up going down the road???
I really don't mind the rattling as Im darn near deaf.
If there is possibly a lock up issue I WILL go with your suggestion of changing to cable wheel parking brakes.
Again ,THANKS for all the good info !!!!!!!!!
Pete

They are notorious for barely providing brake friction but not for locking up.
