Now that I have new steering box and front suspension in place and running, I thought I would put the extended bell crank back on the unit. I never really looked at it when I swapped it out for the short one but I see that the drag link end appears bent. Does anyone know if this is normal (i.e. to compensate for the drop)? or bent? There are no nicks or evidence of having hit anything and it handled the same as the short one I replaced it with (or appeared to)...

I've got A1s and I just went out and looked at both. And yea both have extended bell cranks and the drags are bent on both. Looks like they're bent to get around the exhaust pipe, between it and the oil pan. I have a loose third drag link but it looks like there's a custom bend in it, probably not a good example.
Why do you have an extended bellcrank with the stock 12 leaf suspension? _________________ Wes K

Something didn't compute. It looks like you have pictured is the tie rod end of the bell crank assembly. And I do have that small bend on that end of the bell crank on both. Sorry. I thought you were concerned why the drag link was bent all over like/as mine were.

Wes, it has the dropped bell crank because that's what was standard on the Canadian CDN2s (or so I understand). The reason I was considering putting it back on is that it is almost a fully sealed unit and given the amount of moisture in Saint John, NB that seems like a good thing
Hammerun, thanks... I couldn't find another picture of the thing to compare it to... to be sure, we're talking about a bend on the arm and pivot that connects to the drag link? A bend back and the pivot leaning to the rear a bit (the first picture)? The second picture was more for an illustration of what it looked like when on the vehicle...

That's my understanding Wes.
Replacements seem unfindable now. Mine is fully usable with good bearings, shaft, seals, no flat spots on the pivot, etc.. Just can't seem to locate info whether that bend is normal to accommodate the drop....
