Do these horizontal support rods get used in conjunction with the top in the summer configuration? Or are they only needed when you need the drop vertical rods when the side curtains are used? And can someone confirm these measurements, particularly the m38 rods?

Brett, I built my rods per the dims shown and they work fine.
As for usage I employ them in the summer config as there are
flaps to the inside of the canvas that wrap and snap around the
horiz rod. Keeps the top from sailing @ speed. I'll have the
top with me @ IMVPA if you happen to stop by you can have a look Wink

I've got a bunch of top hdwe I stripped from a rotten top.. buckles,
snaps and such.. you interested??

I took a length of the round stock, put the 90 degree bend in one end and slipped it into the bracket on the windshield frame. I then pushed back on the top bow to put tension on the top, measured where the other bend would need to be and bent the rod at that place to fit the hole in the top bows.

It would be a smart move to use the rods with the summer top to remove some of the droop and reduce the flopping in the wind.

Do the side curtain drop rods get secured at the top at the junction to the horizontal rods or do they just sit there in the tub pockets I'm just thinking if they are not secure that they could maybe walk up and out from vibration, no?
Thanks,
Brett

Right, but take the winter top then pull the side curtains and doors off you then have a 'summer top'.

There are aftermarket summer tops that are cheapies that do not have the rod retention features of the REAL M38/M38A1 top and then there are the real tops. My comment in June referred to the real tops used without side curtains in warm weather.

The drop rods are free to bounce but you can tape them with electrician's tape at the junction with the horizontal rod or you can drill the drop rod for a cotter pin or safety pin just below the lug on the horizontal rod.

Thanks Wes, I'll throw a cotter pin in there for peace of mind.

With the drop rod thru the side curtain channel and the door strike installed
there isn't any movement at all. My experience anyway..

Rick, you must have missed a few posts. The side curtains were removed to run the top only like a summer top.
