I found an engine on kijiji up here in the north that is from a pre WW2 Willys.
just wondering how different this engine is than the L-134 engine found in the M38?
The ad says it was running when pulled but I know not to trust those statements. What should I look for if I go and check it out in person?
here is pics of Engine
That is for a prewar Willys car. There are many similarities just as there are many internal and external differences. I would only choose that engine as a last ditch choice. If you can get it cheap enough you could offer it for sale to the pre-war Willys restorers. It would probably sell very quickly further south.
A few diffs:
Different crank and rods
different valve timing
different oil pump/distributor drive system (they are pinned together from inside the sump.
The ignition timing is run 5 Deg ATDC.
Different water pump.
Different front mount plate.
Different intake and carb. _________________ Wes K

This is what I thought. Seller is looking for $500 for all of it but without knowing running condition I'm concerned reselling it won't fetch much money. _________________ 1952 M38 project
