as you can see, I have gear oil leaking out of the bottom of my steering gear. What am I missing, or how do I correct this? I went through the entire gear last winter. Will adding a horn switch adapter take care of this?

When I was installing my horn button I noticed a small amount of oil leaking out as well. I removed the button, applied some thread sealant and haven't had any further problems. The only place that my box is leaking is out the top near the shims but I figure that should find it's happy level eventually. _________________ Jordan
The three missing parts are needed to seal the bottom end. The adapter, the switch and the gasket. The Ross boxes that did not use a switch at the bottom had a plug & seal.
Your references with the answer to your questions are:
ORD 9 SNL G-740 page 259 items A, B & C.
TM 9-1804B covers the rebuild of the box but fails to mention the gasket and the adapter that belong with the switch.
The Ross Steering Gear Factory Manual shows the oil seal & plug arrangement on page 9 where the switches are not use on the twin cam gear boxes.
All three manuals are free for downloading PDF copies on our downloads page. _________________ Wes K

Thanks for the clarification. I have all the downloads, but page 259 is dark/blurry and mostly unreadable, plus it's nice sometimes to supplement the manuals with this forum to get rid of any doubts or uncertainties when trying to figure something out. _________________ Aaron
