Use a thread chaser to clean threads.

I don’t own any thread chasers, only taps…

Yup. Clutch and brake return springs. Right on Ron.

The bottom boot is the one used on the clutch cable for fording. You should have a threaded insert for the bell housing this boot fits over and is clamped.
