Dave,

That is excellent information. I am guessing that it would be the 873rd vehicle and not necessarily the 873rd Jeep? I am also guessing that this hood number is consistent with the Dec. 1954 ...

Dave,

Thanks for your reply. Comparing your body serial number, hood number and date of manufacture; it seems my M38A1 is all consistent with Dec. 1954 and probably all matching.

My son and I sanded the hood of our 1954 M38A1 looking for hood numbers. We found them! On both sides we found "US Army" twice; one set of painting was painted over with it again, on both sides. We ...

I can't provide the photos of all four sides at this time. Eventually, when I tear it down further, I will.

The universal joint, hanging on the end of the PTO, would strike the underside of the ...

Thanks again Wes. What does that mean about my Jeep? It has the MD serial number on both the engine and the body, with OD green paint. Why would it also have the farm PTO? Did the military M38A1's ...

My PTO, on my 1954 M38A1, has a universal joint on the end of it, which is not attached to anything. The PTO shifter is aft of the three normal shifters and next to the emergency brake. The PTO driv ...

Wes,

I just joined in the last few days and you have already helped me. I have not taken the body off my 1954 M38A1 yet but I also have a PTO that appears to face rearward.

Thank you for such detailed information. I incorrectly assumed my M38A1 had the engine replaced because the engine serial number was different from the body. I now know better and understa ...

Wes,

Thank you very much for the information. My 1954 Willys M38A1 does not have the M151 instrument cluster nor the M151 air cleaner. Both are the M38A1 parts.
