Update, finally got around to fixing my timing problem. The timing mark was 2" away from TDC, now it's 1/2". Close as I could get it. Starts and runs a lot better. Thanks for all your input!

Correction, one side the key was on the shaft when the hub was installed, the other side, after the hub was installed.

I think the hub was installed first, then the key.

OK, I got the bearings shimmed to .006 endplay. When I installed the hub, the 1" castle nut would only screw on far enough to get the cotter pin through the shaft. No room for the big washer on driver ...
