Took my first drive on the road last weekend and it was a blast. But I kept hearing a banging noise up front and couldn't figure it out until I got back to the house.
My hood hinges don't seem to be worn but I can definitely see how driving around and hitting bumps can cause the back of the hood to make banging noises when the back of the hood has some slight up and down slack. This seems to be very painful for the hinges. Is this typical and/or is there something I can do to stop it?
Did I mention that I took my 53 A1 out for it's first drive in who knows how many years (at least 2-1/2yrs that I've been working on it)? Wahoo. What a blast it was!
Lee, can't help with your noise question. But I can say, Congratulation's on getting running and driving it!! _________________ David M.

Banging noise solved.
My right rear corner of the hood (right side closest to firewall) was hitting the top of the fender occasionally. I thought it looked too close when I installed it but it wasn't touching. After a few road trips, when i opened the hood, I could see where it was starting to wear away my fresh OD paint. So I loosened all fender bolts and pushed it down on the firewall side about 1/8" and went for a road test. No more bang-bang. I adjusted my exhaust valves too and the motor is quiter. YEAH! _________________ 1953 M38A1 F-Head
