hi,

1970 M38A1 CND 3
The front brakes are 9 in with the old style adjustment ( excentric)
The rear ones are 10 in with the self adjusting mechanism.
Question : can I convert the front brakes into self adjusting ones JUST BY ADDING THE SELF ADJUSTING MECHANISM TO THE EXISTING BRAKES and removing only the excentric ?
I would not want to change the whole drum and the shoes and everything else inside the drum.

Also what are the colors code for the primary ( the one in front I guess?)shoe and the secondary one ( the back one?) ?

And last question: a supplier that is knowlegeble and reliable ( not Willysacres please!!!)

Thank you guys

You will need the backing plates and the shoes and the wheel cylinders and the springs/retainers.

10" brake

Stock 9" brake

Have you tried Brian Asbury in Acton. There are a couple of others in the Niagra
area that I can get you numbers for if needed. All good guys, fair and reliable.

Shocked Interesting, That CDN 3 sure didnt come with 9". Someone must have swapped them along the way and put those 9" on. My 71 CDN 3 came direct from mil surplus and it had 10" self adjusters all the way around. I thought the CDN2's also had 10". It was only the first contract in 53 that had the 9".

You could always look for a set of 11" off the mid 60's wagoneer or the truck. They will bolt right on the front. The backing plate is what you need for eithr the 10" or 11". I got all the rest of the parts from Napa and Part Source for the 11"s on my M38.
