trying to find out what a part that is connected to the carb would be, its a Hobart brothers 3856 and it may be a governor, as it was on a MB motor that looks like it was set to run a generator or welder.... anybody know??

This posting by Keith points out that there is in existance a Willys factory BOM that concerns the installation of governors on WWII jeeps.

I tried to do what I promised and find if there were different numbers for New vs rebuilt carbs. So far I would say no. I di find some intersting things though.

I reviewed the MA Billof Materials to see what Carbs was specified. It was listed as a Willys Part number 637770, Carb Assy Complete. This was a Carb intended to be used on the Willys Model 39 and 440. It was adopted for MA on 12/13/40. That is basically a 637750 with a brass fitting added. I contacted a friend that used to work on these things and he has a Carter drawing for the carb and it matches the NOS carb that Sean posted. Carter apparently called this a WO-450B, and it is made from a 431S with unspecified changes. Why do I mention all this? Because every part contains a Willys part number, and there were 26 changes made to this Carb between 1939 and 1946. This suggests that MA Carbs supplied for "SERVICE" may have had the same part number and different specifications, some visible, some not.

The BOM for the Willys MB OCD which was the firefighter, used a WO-507S, but the MB with Hobart Welder used the 539S. I can find at least 5 different Willys part numbers for the 539S, the most common of which is A-1223. If anybody has any contactes with Carter, that is their XT-1764-115 or WO539S.

I'd glad to see Claude's list, but I share in the concern that someone may take apart an authentic 539 without knowing it. Since there were 26 versions of the MA 431S, It wouldn't surprise me if there were even more versions of the 539S.

No, I didn't know that, maybe I did see you working on the LTV in the shed... anyway it was the best Military rally or show I have ever attended... never realized how good of a pilot Kevin was till I saw the night flying at the searchlight... really impressed with everything about it.... hope its not the last time...

I maintain both the L19's, the T-6, Cessna 185 and 170 up there. I learned to fly in the polished aluminum 170 there. It was my aircraft background that brought me and the LTV together. It has a Continental W670 radial which is the same engine the Stearman, Fairchild PT-23 and Waco UPF-7 use. I maintain all three of those down in Chippewa falls.

We do the September rally every year. We also have a Feb club meeting where we do a lot of tracked activity on the ice. We also fly both L19's on ski's.

Well Wesk, I learned to fly in a Cessna 170 also, actually owned a 1/4 share for about 5 years and then my wife asked me to quit flying till the children got a little bigger, she was right, had enough scares thinking I was a pretty good pilot when I was young!! now after all types of ultralights, I just fly a PPC and thats ok for me.... took my MUTT and M-37 for a few miles ride today to keep them in shape... sure enjoyed that... thanks again...
