OK, I'm sure I've asked this before over on the G503 site but having done a search I can't turn up the relevant thread.

My freind needs some M38/A1 headlight buckets etc. He wants his NEKAF to be more 'Willys Factory' and his buckets have been chopped by a previous owner. I think I have the headlights + buckets that I salvaged from a grill ages ago but I've a feeling they may be M38.

This involves 60 mile round trip to my overflow store, and then heaven only knows how much rummaging.

My question is, I know the headlight sealed beam will swap but are the buckets and hardwear interchanable between M38A1 and M38 and vice versa.
I've feeling the rings on the front are different.
Thanks,
Dave

Dave,

If I remember correctly, the lights and the buckets are the same.

I am not sure about the trim ring on the front.

Guys, pitch in here! Laughing

Yes they are the same. That is a generic Army issue bucket. You will also find it on period M211's, M135's and very early M35's. The easy clue is early have many screws and late only have 3 screws that secure the bucket to the grill.

Now I feel a total idiot.
I didn't realise the buckets were the same on the M35, I'd thought there was some subtle difference that meant they couldn't be used and hence never tried.
I have a small mountain of M35 buckets in the 20ft container in my garden.
I shall get some out today and check them against the m38,
Oh bugger.
Thanks,
Dave.

Remember the early M series headlight bucket mounts with 8 phillips screws and the late buckets mount with 3 phillip screws. It seems to me I've tried the 3 screw late buckets and they fit hole. just not the screw pattern.

All take offs.
if my memory serves me well I had about 18 I gave 4 to a guy at a show last year in exchange for.......... something or other and I've given some others to fellow Mseries sado's I think there was about a dozen left (OK, mountain is exagerating).

Chris Moys the Belgian dealer (all round good guy and a totally decent chap) in Tisselt in Beligum sent them over some years ago when I was buying Reos from him, he sent me loads of stuff that I would never use but now I understand he was 'clearing out'.
I think he just told the lads in the yard to fill the back of the reos up with spares they thought I might need. really they were giving me the sealed beams (impossible to get over here) it just wasn't worth there while taking them out of the buckets.
They even sent a stillage FULL of canvas and cab canvas'es.

Chris is such a nice guy that this Christmas I was over and called in to buy the big special spanner that you use to adjust the compressor belt pully on the M35/M54 series trucks (Wes will know it) and even though I hadn't bought anything off him for years he just gave me it.
Now we are talking very rare tool here.
You know I should take some pictures of my piles 'o' parts and post them here.
Watch this space,
Dave.

I forgot to say,
the reason I was annoyed was because I'd completed a 60 mile round drive to look at the buckets that are at my other storage place thinking they were different,
all the best,
Dave
