Well I looked in my referances and I can't find the 4 bolts that secure the winch to the chassis. I guess they come under chassis or something and not winch.

Any way... I want to go to my local nut and bolt supplier and buy the 4 bolts that screw into the captured nuts that are welded into the inside of the chassis rails that hold on the two angle iron brackets which then attach to the winch frame.
Is that clear??
I think they are item F on the ramsey winch download here on this site.

If you know these bolts please let me know the size/thread I need to ask for.
Many thanks,
Dave

Dave,

did you look it up in the ORD9 SNL G740 parts listing - it's at the back of the book. I'm away from my stuff right now, but can look it up in a couple of days.

Smile

Dave,

The SNL list it as PN 123605:

BOLT, MACHINE, hex-hd, S, cd or zn-pltd, 1/2-
20NC-3 x 1

and it uses...

WASHER, LOCK, med, S, cd or zn-pltd, 1/2 in

Hope this helps...

Hal,

Thanks for posting that, I have been out visiting relatives the past few days and don't have access to my books. Cool

How's the winch stuff going Dave?

Are you using that winch you got from another vehicle you posted about earlier this year?

Hal,
many thanks for posting that, I'm not a bolt 'nut' if you follow my drift.
I was hoping for something simple like '1/2 inch UNF son, trott along t' tractor dealers and buy 1/2 dozen, there's a good lad.'
I did eventually find 4 bolts just the right length and in Stainless no less, I was about to say..... they look like 1/2 UNF 20 threads to the inch.
But reading Hal's tech spec I see thats what the tech spec translates as.
The problem was the nuts were so filled with paint and surface rust between the threads and I didn't want to force anything hence getting a bolt started on the thread was difficult and looked like the bolts didn't match the nut, does that make sense? So much gentle cleaning of the nut threads later......... the bolt fitted. It's a bugger of a job though!!

Well the winch thing moves slowly forward.

The Ramsey 2000 that I have from a M38A1 that was exported very bizzarrly to Pakistan (I still don't understand why a country so desperate for forieghn currency would spend hard earned cash in the US) is wider than the 50 winch.
So the winch frame when fitted will have to move over to the passenger side of the vehicle slightly and the winch inside the frame may also be moved slightly towards the passenger side to allow for clearance for the drive shaft. I did consider cutting two inches out the middle of the winch as I've done that in the past with other winches in the days when I worked on mobile drilling rigs.
As for up amd down clearance I need to weld some extensions to the sides of the frame as I'm not sure how high/low it needs to sit.

The bug-bear now will be finding some slim line UJs et al. However, I've seen just the thing on the steering componants of some home made tractors at a digger / dozer theme park near where I live.

Then buying a PTO and cutting some inches out of the ofset to shorten it, yes I know it would be easier to mod the exhaust.

Hey ho,
Thanks for asking,
all the best,
Dave.

Dave, a cheap tap and die set work wonders for cleaning treads in the frame...

I know you are done with this set of holes, but that may be used next time... Smile
