Alright guys, I'm down to the details now! I am wanting to put a max speed stencil on the lower part of the windshield frame. It seems like I have seen them that said 50 mph. The data plate says maximum POSSIBLE speed is 60 mph. I don't plan on driving over 50 very often. Was there a common speed stenciled on 'a1s? _________________ Matt

Don't know about the M38A1, but my M38 had "MPH 35" stencilled on the windscreen vent panel:
Maybe the air force folks were a bit more cautious. _________________ Owen

On the windshield of my 1952 M38A1 was stenciled MAX MPH (and either 33, 35, or 55 it was hard to decifer the top portion). I made it 55 when I put the stencil back on.

We had 2 identical M135s (that were in sequential serial number order) 5 mph's apart MPH 40 and 45 the slower one had a lot of headshake, so I always believed it was safe speed of the individual vehicle
It was explained to me that MPH 45 stood for maximum permissible highway and max 45 MPH is miles per hour.....I think
In some original photos I have seen the speed stencil on a MD located on the lower portion of the windshield frame centered over the dash mounting bolt above the guage cluster.
Sorry I have not mastered the picture upload button yet but wen I do I ll post a pic or two |

Thanks for the replies guys! I'm seeing everything from 35 to 55. More than likely it was left up to the individual commanderor base policy. I'm going to go out on a limb and set mine to a 50mph max, since that seems to be about 95% of my 'a1s max speed (52mph seemed to be pushing it to me, so I'm guessing 55 would be about max). I'll post pics after I get it painted on. _________________ Matt
