That's cool man. I'm in California where everything is more expensive.

I'm in California, too, but your cost for the tub sounds a lot better than what I paid for just the frame, and I think the tub would be more time consuming than the frame (I had already cleaned it up a fair amount before I took it in). Mind sharing the contact info for your blaster?

Went to a buddies house last week end and did some body work. He did all the welding for me.

Original Body Panel

Patch Panel

Floor Pan From MWM

I'll get some shots of the patch panel welded into place.

Way to go at it Dave! I repaired and painted my top bow this weekend. It's the one I got on our visit to Oceanside. Pretty crusty from the beach climate but I had it sand blasted, ran Phosphoric down inside it and welded up the holes. Should be good enough.

We should go back down there and see what we can dig up.

PostPosted: Thu Apr 04, 2013 1:02 pm    Post subject: Pintle Hook Reply with quote

My pintle hook is missing the chain and cotter pin. Does anyone have a picture of the chain and cotter pin? What is the length of the chain?

Also, what is the orientation of the rear lifting hooks? Anyone have a picture of how the hooks are installed in the brackets?

Thanks,

Dave

I don't think the M38 & M38A1 pintle hooks had either the cotter pin or chain; the only chains listed in that section of the ORD 9 are for the lifting shackles. There's a pretty good picture of the pintle hook on page 264 of the M38A1 ORD 9. The cotter pin makes good safety sense though.

There's a photo here of the later type with the pin & chain:

Thanks for the info. Looks like I have the correct pintle hook. It's interesting that there is a stud for the cotter pin chain.

Looks similar to mine, apart from the grease zerks:

You can probably see where the hamfisted one snapped the chain stud off. Embarassed

I believe mine is the later type though, and not original to my jeep. While I'm not going to put the chain back on, I will be putting a cotter pin back in; I don't fancy ever towing a trailer by just the power lead. Mr. Green

Where did you go?

Did you finish your project?

I'm still working on my project. I'll try to post a few pictures. The original tub was way beyond my ability to restore. I purchased another tub and have been learning to weld. It's been slow going.

I need to replace both steps on my M38. Has anyone used the repro steps from Peter Debella? Just wondering how they fit.

I replaced the passenger step on Saturday. It came out OK and I still have some welding and grinding to do.
