Ryan,
I was looking at your sneak preview of the data files and can hardly wait.
One question, are all the holes factory? Specifically holes #6 & #3?
It has been a while since I worked on the tub and don't remember if I saw those are not. |

Greg,
Hole number 3 is for the radio outlet wire retaining clip screw as the wire runs up to the battery box. It is pictured in that diagram on radio wire routing (I don't remember which manual that came out of).
vehicles that came with the radio receptacle from the factory (which was up to late 1951 if I rember correctly) would have that hole for sure. Not sure about the later production.
Holes label #6 are for the support rod of the intake tube when fording. There is a spot welded square nut on the backside with reinforcing. That is also factory as far as I know.
Someone can correct me if I am wrong as that is what this site is all about!

Ryan,
I have an '52 M38 (serial number unknown) I do remember the #6 holes, I will have to check on that #3 hole.
Hope I didn't fill it thinking it didn't belong. I will be drilling it out again. I will be able to tell if I had it in my "before" photos. |

Did you see this one from Gary Keating?
I see a lot of shiny and painted bolts!

Yes that is a great photo, wish we had one showing the other side also.
Did you notice the from lifting rings, they look like the "offset" type that I associated with only being on the rear. But, it could just be the way I am looking at the.
The front fender bolts don't appear to be painted. But, again hard to tell. |

Ryan,
That photo is great... as a suggestion if someone had the measurements to add that would be an extra boost.
I had to replace 3 quarter panels on my tub and have not been able to drill the holes due to not knowing where they go...
I would be willing to draw them up on Power Point if I had the dimensions.
Just a suggestion. |

The early M38 had the front lift shackles further back on the frame unitl around May of 1951 from what we have found so far. It used the same shackle and ring as the rear lift shackle.
Hal, I can make some paper templates for you as that is much more accurate than measurements. Let me know. _________________ Ryan Miller
