It doesn't make sense to me that on the middle fender bracket that one tube measurement is 2 1/2" one way and then 2 3/4" the other. Perhaps the bracket it pulled open a tad making it wider. I guess if I knew what outside diameter the fording tubing was, that would clarify it. _________________ Brett

Not sure what you're asking and the photo is not the best.
My fording tube (from MWM) is about 2-3/8" and fits loosely
in the fender bracket.. _________________ keep 'em rollin'

How wide is the stock in those brackets. Right now in, particular the fender bracket. I cant tell if I should go with 3/4" or 1" flat strap.
My 2nd question or confusion, was in regard to the opening of the bracket for the intake tube. Your 2 3/8" measurement makes me think that the bracket opening will 2 1/2 ID. _________________ Brett

Found the receptacle on ebay, then built my own cables bought at the welding supply shop. _________________ Brett

B-Bob, be aware most you'll see on flea bay are later generic units
with aprox 60" pos lead and aprox 12" neg lead. Plugs are molded with the leads so cannot be changed out for proper lead lengths. Look for a
receptical only "allenite" comes w/o leads so you can build your own
leads proper length like Bretto and I did. _________________ keep 'em rollin'

Thanks a LOT for the good information. I'll keep that in mind. Are there any other vehicles that use the same receptacles? |

All the Generic one pin receptacles were supplied to the Army on a standard milspec as were all the two pin receptacles. Although they are often not identical in appearance they always meet the same form and function requirements. The basic receptacle, irregardless of manufactuer's name, will bolt in the same opening using the same 4 bolt holes in all MV's of the same period.
Don't confuse a molded receptacle to a potted receptacle. Those receptacles shipped with cables installed were usually potted with a soft sealing compound that is removable when cables must be replaced.
As Rick advise always look for the cable-less receptacle so you don't have to fool with removing old potting and cleaning up so you can install the correct length cables. Most parts manuals will list the "Receptacle" part number and they often list a "Receptacle Assembly" part number. The first is without cables and the second is with.
I do not know of any MV's that used the same cable lengths that the M38 used.
The bare receptacles used on the M38 would have been the same part number as the bare receptacle used on an M37 or M35 built during the early 50's.
Some examples:
M38 - Receptacle with cables ORD# 7731421 (#2 AWG +=29" -=33")
M38 - Connector (Page 174 od ORD 9 SNL G-740)(Mis-Nomer should read receptacle) ORD# 7321299
M37 - Receptacle with cables ORD# 7351202 (#2 AWG + is about 40" & - 16")
M37 - Receptacle only ORD# 7321299
If you pursue an ORD# 7321299 you will eventually locate the receptacle without any cables attached.
Simple " 7321299 receptacle" search yields a few choices:
