Hi, any instructions/illustrations for the installation of the fording kit for the M-38?
90% of the installation is pretty straight forward except on how exactly the tube support by the windscreen is attached to the jeep, and there are also a couple small brackets I don't know where they go.
Any help out there?????
Thnx
K B

I don't want to look like an idiot ... but I just clicked through 217 photos and didn't see the fording stuff. Is there a "how it works" explanation somewhere? Because I'm still lost as to what it actually does when you pull out that magic lever

I found that album about an hour after I posted, but still confused as to what pulling the fording knob on the dash takes care of. I know it closes a valve off in the intake tubing after the air cleaner, and there's a separate cable connected to something else. I'm lost as to what the valve in the intake does and what the other part of the fording lever does. I just don't get the mechanism of it all just yet.

So, just what does this do?

The "Deep Water Fording Kit" supplied in the field consists of the extensions and brackets for the exhaust and intake only.

The fording system supplied from Willys with the jeep is all the vent plumbing and valves. The system discription and maintenance instructions for the equipment supplied with the jeep is in the manuals; TM9-1804A M38 Engine & Clutch Chapter 6. Also general info is in the M38 Operator's Manual TM 9-8012 pages 23, 46, and 275. These manuals you should already have. If not download them in PDF format free in our "Downloads Section".

Simply put, the pulling of the fording knob closes both fording valves (one at the intake adjacent to the PCV valve and one at the crossover pipe). This action causes the engine crankcase and later M38's the bell housing/tranny/transfer to pressurize to about a 2 PSI differential. This prevents the ingestion of water.

That's my bad, I printed out the TM a few days ago, I should have went to the tm and started researching.

But your summary was exactly what I was wondering. I'll look at the TM for the in detail now. Thanks!
