I see several ads around for ‘M38/M38A1’ windshield wipers, but only one makes reference to Trico 63527 / WO# 674645 / or ORD# 7375189 which I think are ‘real’ M38 WW’s. ($185 each for 674645 if still available)
All of the NOS/take off prices are also high even if they are not really M38.
So, what’s a guy to do? The PoPo needs to see wipers. Even without the vac lines hooked up maybe the hand operated arm would be enough. So.
* Go for the rare real deal wipers and hope the supplier is honest?
* Go for a ‘close but no cigar’ M38A1 wiper?
What did you guys do ???
(I know the blades are also hard to find and pricy.) _________________ Don Alvarez

Hi Don,
Yes, true M38 wipers are rare and expensive, the going price for NOS or professionally rebuilt seems to be about $150 each and has been for a while now. Even if you find a pair of take-off carcasses, the rebuild parts are just as rare (and I hear also need special tools and a lot of finesse). I saved up my nickels and dimes for a long time and bought a true M38 pair figuring they aren't going to get any cheaper. Once in a lifetime buy. For vacuum wipers that don't work well even on a good day, and for a jeep I have no intention of getting wet anyway.
I've seen a few threads where folks modified the very similar looking and mounts the same wiper for the early M151 by shortening the main shaft. It has to be shorter or you can't lay the windshield down. Either that, or maybe extend the mount somehow. Either way, it would be obvious it's not M38, maybe even Bubba. Shaft shortening not in my skill set. With patience and luck, I've seen NOS M151 wipers for about half the cost of the M38 type. Before I educated myself to M38 wiper reality I bought a NOS pair. If you're interested at $75 for the pair let me know. More about that here ----> http://www.willysmjeeps.com/v2/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=7121&highlight=m151+wipers
Have you seen these? MWM is certainly honest and this is about as good as it's going to get -----> https://www.ebay.com/itm/393469504880
Pretty sure the blades and arms are cheap and plentiful.
Good luck! _________________ Ron D.

Don,
They look like mine, but more important, when John @ MWM says they're M38 wipers you can take it to the bank. _________________ Ron D.

I answered this on ebay as well. M38 and M38A1 motors are basically the same. The handle orientation is different but can be altered to fit either jeep.

Hi Don,
Glad to help! You didn’t think you were done yet, did you? Unless you already have these, I recommend you consider calling John before he ships your wipers so you can add this stuff to your order and save some on shipping cost (when you figure out you need them anyway):
You'll need one of these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/274583448463?hash=item3fee72eb8f:g:1UYAAOSwRetft73p
And 2 of these:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/274851123977?hash=item3ffe675309:g:UfkAAOSwqSZg3FGQ
And some of these:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/274642623448?hash=item3ff1f9dbd8:g:8lMAAOSwcpxgbGpT
Not counting about 5 feet of unique-size (7/32") rubber vacuum hose, several feet of metal tubing, and some clamps. See the TM and ORD9 for details.
I believe he also has a pair of wiper arms and blades with your name on them too!
In for a penny, in for a pound I always say. Good luck!
And no, I'm not getting kickbacks from John (I wish).......it's just top shelf gear from top shelf folks!
P.S. you need to telephone him asap if you order this stuff. If you just buy from fleabay they'll probably be processed seperate and cost you more in shipping.
P.P.S. wait until you dig into the rest of the vacuum piping system...... _________________ Ron D.

Uh, seeing as how I am good at buying the wrong stuff....
or being sent the wrong stuff and not catching mistakes.
Do these wiper units look correct for my M38? _________________ Don Alvarez
